Dra. Gilda Rivera Ríos

Dr. Gilda M. Rivera Ríos is an assistant professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, a Master’s degree in Spanish Curriculum from the University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Elementary and Secondary Spanish from the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey, and an Associate of Arts degree from the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce. Dr. Rivera has worked as an educational lesson designer, as a Spanish teacher in the Puerto Rico Department of Education (1986–2017), and as a lecturer at Ana G. Méndez University, among other roles. In addition, she has worked as an online course designer at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey. She has also served as an editor and proofreader of doctoral and master’s theses at various universities in Puerto Rico. Furthermore, she acted as a reader and editor for the research book on the life of Luis Llorens Torres, Boceto Lloreniano (2013), the short story collection "La hormiguita viajera: Cuentos, Dramas y reflexiones" (2013), "Voces Llorenianas" (2012), "Sentimientos del alma" (2012), and "Essentia: Grito a la esperanza" (2011).

She also contributed to the book "El poder de la creación: Un acercamiento a la narrativa neo-realista" of Miriam González-Hernández by Dr. María Talavera with the article of literary criticism and analysis “El arquetipo de la Madre Terrible" in the Stories ‘Mercedes Benz 220SL" by Rosario Ferré and ‘Difusa’ by the Puerto Rican Writer Miriam González-Hernández.” Her doctoral dissertation, “Representaciones negativas del poder femenino en Papeles de Pandora, Maldito Amor y otros Cuentos, Sonatinas y Las dos Venecias de Rosario Ferré,” was recommended for publication by the Center for Advanced Studies at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. In addition, Dr. Rivera was recognized by the College Board of Puerto Rico as a Teacher of Excellence in Advanced Spanish and by the Banco Popular Foundation and the College Board with the Rafael Carrión, Jr. Award for Academic Excellence (2017).

She is currently a member of the Activities Committee of the Department of Hispanic Studies in the College of Arts and Humanities at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, chairs the Welcome and Recruitment Committee, and is an active member of other committees. Dr. Rivera has published the following books on Amazon:"Las aventuras de Luna y de Ian Cometín" (children’s book—2021), the poetry collection "Pandemia de sentimientos"(2021), the short story anthology "Acuarela de Sentimientos" (2023), "Las aventuras de Luna y de Ian Cometín: Una última parada de amo" (children’s literature—2025), and Sofía y sus amigos: El cofre milagroso (children’s literature—2026). In addition to this, her short story “El Día de Reyes” was selected by Editorial Rubín of Argentina for publication in the book Cuentos para jugar y soñar, which brings together writers from all over the world. The story is included in Volume II. She will soon present her second collection of poems, titled "Dama del traje amarillo", and, as an editor and proofreader, she will present the poetry collection "Metanoia" by master’s student Sherrianne Travieso Pérez.
